Cycling Cuba
A very special culture bike tour
Cuba is a very special country, the people are very friendly and incredibly helpful.
In Cuba there is a lack of many due to the embargo and yet there is nothing missing, everything is organized and somehow it
works.
There is the best mojito in the world, in the evening street musicians tune in and the plaza dances spontaneously. One feels
immediately reminiscent of the "Buena Vista Social Club" the old masters of Cuban music ... Chan Chan is heart-searing filled
with strong male voices. Link
The Cubans care for their cars a lot and there are plenty of Cadilacs, Plymouth, Pontiak and Chevy's on the streets before the 1953 Revolution.
Fuel is expensive and so you often see coaches on the streets, even on the highway.
We experience a beautiful country with little traffic, sports-minded, open-hearted people and summer temperatures around 25 degrees, which are ideal for the
cold season for a unique cycling experience.
We spend the night in Casas Privados, the colonial accommodation of the Cubans and enjoy their hospitality.
The road surface is damaged on some sections, patched or shorter sections may be natural, so we recommend at least a wide tire of 25-28 mm or ideally a
cross bike or gravel bike.
Day 1: Arrival by plane to Havana and transfer
Day 2: Today we dive into the charm of Havana, visit the Museo de la Revolucion, the Edifico Bacardi, the Capitol and Havana viejo. In the evening we will visit
Salón Rosado Beny Moré, Havana's authentic dancers hall.
Day 3: 108 km - 700 m ascent
We leave Havana along the beautiful Malecons that once again brings us back to the fortress Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro. It goes along the sea and get
the first impressions of rural Cuba. The pretty town of Matanzas, the Cuba's Athens, invites you to take a stroll through the streets. In the evening we visit the
Casa de Trova with the famous Rumba Ensemble.
Day 4: 96 km - 400 m ascent
It goes to Jaguay Grande over rural area.
Coffee, tobacco and sugar are the main crops in the country.
Day 5: 68 km - 100 m ascent
Today we drive to the legendary Bay of Pigs, where the invasion took place in 1961. We will have lunch at Rancho de la Boca, the world's second largest
crocodile farm, where you will be able to try the chicken-tasting white crocodile steak. Continue on the Playa Largo with turquoise water to Playa Giron, who
wants to snorkel there in crystal clear cenotes (rock pools).
Day 6: 92 km - 200 m ascent
Now we arrive in Cuba's central center where some colonial treasures are waiting for us. Cienfuegos is UNSECO World Heritage Site and captivates with
colonial charm. The Parque Martí and the Catedral de la Purisima Conceptión invite you to stroll. Let one of the Karikaristen paint. The nice thing about Cuba is
that people there like to offer souvenirs or their services, but if you say "no, thank you," the merchants accept this and are not intrusive, a nice smile and they
leave. If possible, we will visit Teatro Tomás in the evening.
Day 7: 93 km - 660 m ascent
First we make a Stichtour to the Boulevard Prado, where we are often accompanied by local racing cyclists to the tip of the peninsula Punta Gorda. There we
can visit the Palacio de Valle palace in the Moorish style, before we continue our journey to Trinidad, the fourth oldest colonial city. The magnificent Plaza Major
invites you to linger, the city is an outstanding example of Cuban colonial architecture, great! In the evening, a visit to the Casa de Musica, where various
combos occur and the Cubans spontaneously dance salsa, is worthwhile, unbelievable how beautifully they move to the music.
Day 8: Today is a quiet day with a trip to the beaches of Trinidad planned. Wonderfully romantic are the colorful, old Amischlitten parked under the palm
trees, the Cubans themselves love their beaches and make a trip with picnic.

Sancti Spiritus with a beautiful park and the oldest church in Cuba awaits us.
